Roaring Laughter & Fire Relay
Thanks for everyone attending our April pack meeting. We had a great time with the jokes from the Bear’s Roaring Laughter Adventure. They proved that laughter was indeed contagious, as the rest of our Scouts couldn’t help but tell jokes of their own.
Thanks to our Wolf Den for putting on our activity, the Fire Relay. It was great fun to see all our Scouts and siblings enjoying the silliness and the competition.
Awards & Advancement
We had another awesome month of advancement with our Scouts. Remember that the “season” ends May 31st. All advancement has to be entered – and approved by a leader, prior to June 1st. For the Scout to receive his award or rank at the May pack meeting, the advancement needs to be completed by May 20th.
Feedback for Annual Planning Meeting
Thanks to our parents, leaders and Scouts for your feedback. This will be invaluable to the pack during our annual planning meeting on May 6th.
Den Activities for April
Tiger: Cyber Chip; Wolf: Hometown Hero; Bear: Roaring Laughter; Webelos: Sportsman
The Cub-O-Ree is this weekend. I forgot to ask for RSVPs in Scoutbook. If you are going, please reply to this email or text me with your name and headcount.
We also have the church workday on Saturday April 28th from 9am – 1pm. Please do plan to attend, and RSVP in Scoutbook. Details on the projects can be found there.
Leadership & Parents Meeting
The Parents & Leadership meeting this month will be on Tuesday, April 17th at 7pm. The focus on planning the summer activities. I encourage everyone to attend and bring their family calendar, so we can plan dates as best as possible.
The multi-den activity will be practicing opening and closing flag ceremonies. Our boys don’t get a lot of opportunities to practice these in our den meetings, and it’s important that they get the practice. Our new Den Chief will be there to assist. Continue reading “April 2018 – Update #1”
Hello Scouts & Scouters
We had a great February, and I’m excited to tell you all about March.
Mark your calendars for the next pack meeting which is March 27. Leaders meeting is March 20. We have workshop time during this for meeting for the boys. We have plans to help our Tigers catch up with their advancement, and can schedule more as needed.
Open Pack Committee Positions
Secretary, Public Relations Chair, Membership Chair and Fundraising Chair. We could use your help and would greatly appreciate new volunteers to help with planning in our pack.
Our Tigers worked on Tiger Bites (healthy eating), and will continue working through their required adventures. Our Wolves will be doing their one mile hike. Our Bears are working on their Fellowship & Duty to God. Our Webelos will be working to fill in any requirements that boys are missing for their Webelos rank.
Our Spring Camp-Out was a ROARING success. The Webelos den planned and executed great activities. Not only did a number of our Webelos finish everything they needed for their rank, but EVERYONE had a great time. It was so awesome to see the boys and their families enjoying the time together.
MANY thanks to Mr. Tramell for bringing his boat, and letting all the boys take turns driving. See pictures here.

Hello Scouts & Scouters:
Another update for the month of February to help everyone stay connected.
Catch them Being Cheerful
Remember that we’re working on “A Scout is Cheerful” in February. Be sure to point out when your Scouts (or their siblings) are being cheerful – especially when it would be easy not to be. You can also point out when you see others being cheerful at school, the church or at the store. Books, TV shows and other media are also great places to help point out cheerful behavior. The more we can point out examples, the times they will see the behavior modeled. Let’s work on positively reinforcing the Scout Law.
We had a great turn-out for Scout Sunday. Eight of our Scouts participated in a responsive reading of the Scout Law with the Southway Church congregation. We provided insight into each point of the Scout Law, from both a BSA and Biblical perspective. The boys did an outstanding job with the reading, and that were all EXTREMELY well behaved. They embodied so many points of the Scout Law – Friendly, Courteous, Cheerful and Reverent (among others).
We presented a walking staff to Pastor Hess as a token of our appreciation for their decades of hospitality, and as a marker of a closer relationship going forward. The church made us feel very welcomed and loved. Thanks so much to everyone who attended and supported Scout Sunday. You can see our group picture here.
Crossover and Blue & Gold
We had a great Crossover ceremony for our Webelos Two den on Saturday, and a wonderful Blue & Gold Banquet. Thank you so much to Pam Brown for organizing everything, and her Dawson Diamonds for their volunteer service. We had a lot of great looking and VERY creative cakes from our boys. As a token of appreciation for all of the hard work that Jason McClure and Debbie put into Pack 404 over the years, we also presented each of them with walking staffs which commemorated the journeys they have shared with their boys.
Thanks to everyone who sent me pictures they had taken from their cell phones. I’ve posted those in a Facebook album. Be sure to tag yourselves and your kids, and share with your friends, family, and most importantly – grandparents. I know a number of people were taking pictures on “big” cameras as well. I’d love to add some more pictures to the album, so please send over any that you have. The B&G album can be found here.

Hello Scouts & Scouters:
I wanted to share with everyone what is going on this week in our Pack.
Everyone is beginning their planning for the March camping trip. Additionally, our Wolves are working on Adventures in Coins. Our Webelos are working on Cast Iron Chef and the Webelos Walkabout Adventures. Our Arrow of Light (AOL) Scouts are preparing for their Bridge Crossing in a couple of weeks.
We have five Scouts that are confirmed to attend the 11am service at Southway for Scout Sunday. The boys will be doing a responsive reading with the congregation regarding the Scout Law.
We’d like to have as many Scouts as possible attend to help promote Pack 404 and say thanks to the Church. We’ll be purchasing patches and/or pins (depending on what is still available). If you’re able to attend, please let me know by noon Thursday. Continue reading “February 2018 – Update #1”
